Tur di Balabiut (= "Tower of the Naked Dancers")
This is where the eat-in kitchen of the Piccola Casa is located. The history of the tower of the annex of the former spa centre: In the mid-18th century, Cannobio became famous beyond its borders for the "Aqua Carlina", a spring of healing water that still exists today. During the day, spa guests from the international aristocracy and moneyed classes underwent hydrotherapy there and in the evening, the more discerning among them were offered a somewhat unusual form of entertainment. To this end, a nearby defence tower was converted for entertainment purposes. Dance evenings were organised, where guests first dressed up in costumes and then gradually took off all their clothes while dancing. As there was not enough room inside for all the guests, it was possible to follow the events in the garden by means of mirrors and thus watch from outside as the other guests inside indulged in the pleasure of dancing in Adam's costume as if on a stage. When the international audience migrated to other spas at the beginning of the 19th century, these erotic dance evenings also came to an end. To this day, the "Tur di balabiut" (tower of naked dancers) is still known by the locals and it is said that many an elderly gentleman still gets bright-eyed when he tells the story of the tower.
